We got married at 21 and had maybe, $50 to our name. Two best friends getting married with the life motto: “we’ve got our love to pay the bills”. All I knew was that I wanted to host friends and family and I wanted to create a beautiful home, but I felt stuck. I felt like all of this should come easy for me… I have a degree in Interior Design after all… but everything I loved, everything I felt inspired by, was completely out of our budget. I had to get resourceful. I started getting my hands dirty with DIYs that looked expensive, but were a fraction of the cost. I began taking small, attainable steps to create the home I wanted for our family… and I am still in that process. I fully believe that overtime we can collect and create to build the home we want.
Maybe “home” is a hard word for you. It's triggering, hurtful and it's frustrating to dream up the home you want for your family since a safe space wasn't modeled well for you. I see you. And I want you to know that you have a safe place here. You get to decide to create a beautiful and safe home for your family. Where you feel invited, free of shame and empowered. It’s easy to let the lie creep in… “don’t send out that invitation”, “your home will never look like that”, “you are not qualified to be hosting this dinner party”. These are very real lies that will keep you from inviting others in and isn’t that just the point of being human? Loving our neighbor. Sending the invitation. Opening the door.
Our houses turn into homes the moment we decide to let go of the ideal picture we've painted in our heads. Instead we can embrace who we are as a family and how our space needs to function with that in mind. The goal is to create a beautiful space that your family wants to run home to and we can do it together.
I'm a 20-something wife to Cade, mama to Finley and our baby boy on the way. I love the home, iced lattes and gathering loved ones around my table. My nine-to-five-job is Director of Interiors Operations for a boutique design firm in East Tennessee. I love working in the Interior Design world and am so honored to witness families coming home to a space designed with beauty and intention.
