Exodus Cry is a mighty force for good that is committed to abolishing sex trafficking and breaking the cycle of commercial sexual exploitation while assisting and empowering its victims.

Trafficking is one component of a much larger system of violence, exploitation, and gender inequality known as the commercial sex industry. Exodus Cry’s strategies are designed to assist, empower, and help bring freedom to those who have been victimized, while also fighting to uproot the larger system of injustice and exploitation that made it possible!

Exodus Cry fights sexual exploitation in the sex industry in three specific ways: Shifting Culture, Changing Laws, & Reaching Out.

Shifting Culture looks like creating incredibly powerful & honest films, videos, podcasts, and written content to get the word out. Their documentary Nefarious: Merchant of Souls has reached over 1.5 million people, has been streamed thousands of times in over 20 countries and in all 50 states, and received over 24 Film Festival honors.

Changing Laws looks like the Law Reform Team from Exodus Cry working with government officials and legislators around the world to implement legislation that creates criminal culpability for sex buyers, pimps, and traffickers and brings freedom & support to victims. Their goal is to shift mindsets by educating legislators, advocating for the adoption of new laws, and creating resources.

Reaching Out looks like seeking out those who have been trapped in the commercial sex industry & helping them find a way out. Exodus Cry does this through conducting outreach in various locations where commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking takes place: strip clubs, hotels/motels, brothels, massage parlors, streets where prostitution is common, and websites with ads for prostitution.

Sexual exploitation thrives when it’s hidden in the shadows. It’s time to shine a light on the commercial sex industry and break the cycle of exploitation, and that is just what Exodus Cry does! Learn more here.

“The work that Exodus Cry does greatly inspires me. It makes me want to be courageous & bold in the things I do. Their work matters deeply, and as someone who knows the founders personally, I cannot vouch for their heartbeats enough. They are real, brave, genuine people doing absolutely life changing work each & every day. What an honor it is to play a small part by supporting them.” -Hannah

Free The Girls is a nonprofit that empowers women who have been rescued from sex trafficking to reintegrate into their communities. Through their 2 year program, they help women achieve physical, financial, emotional, mental, and spiritual freedom. Their goal is more than distance and physical freedom from a trafficker, they teach the women to start businesses for a lifetime of freedom. Their goal of “true freedom” was born out of the question “what are these women being rescued to?”

FTG collects gently used bras and ships them to their partners in El Salvador, Costa Rica, and Mozambique. The women who have completed their program have their own businesses in these countries where they sell these bras. They are now able to provide for themselves and their families without the vulnerability of being trafficked again. They are also emotionally and spiritually whole due to the extensive trauma therapy that FTG provides throughout their program. True freedom means these women are free from trafficking but also free to dream again. Learn more here.

“Courtney, the founder of Free the Girls, is one of the most passionately brave humans you will ever meet. It’s because of both her passion and bravery that Free the Girls is able to touch as many lives as it does. She wasn’t afraid to ask the hard question of what’s happening after these women are rescued & she wasn’t afraid to help answer it. I’ve had the privilege of hosting a table at one of their benefit dinners and hearing stories of healing, and it made me want to continue to support them all the more!” -Anna

The Lovelady Center is a ministry in Birmingham, Alabama that works specifically with women who have been incarcerated. They are able to learn new skills and work through some of their past. The program provides services like medical care, shelter, and job training, but their life skills training and spiritual discipleship are where the life change happens. They believe that in order to break cycles of poverty and incarceration they have to do more than provide temporary food and shelter for these women. The program started when the founder, Brenda Lovelady Spahn, heard women talking about how halfway houses hadn’t helped them. So Brenda started her “wholeway” house “because our God doesn’t do anything halfway.”

The program has been so successful that the Alabama Department of Corrections has given special permission for women to finish their sentencing at Lovelady so that they will not become a repeat offender. The state has seen a decline in recurring offenses since this partnership and accredits part of this decline to the Lovelady Center. Women are truly moving from weariness to wholeness in this program. Learn more here.

“When I lived in Birmingham, my church was very involved with The Lovelady. We led small groups and did service projects, and the women in the program came to conferences at our church. I remember a specific conference where I was on the prayer team and one of these ladies asked if she could pray for me after I prayed for her. She explained that she had been given so much and she wanted to give that back to others. I have seen the life change that this ministry facilitates and the freedom that will affect future generations.” -Shelby

The Well is a ministry in Baltimore, Maryland that combines community, programs, and meaningful work to change the lives of women who have survived abuse, trafficking, addiction, and generational poverty. The mission of The Well is rooted in loving community. From their mentorship program to their weekly life groups, lives are being changed by a community they call “sister friends”. The Well also offers a wide variety of programs and resources to empower women as they take steps toward freedom. They offer everything from mental health programs to financial classes to workforce development. The Well takes women by the hand and walks with them for their entire journey.

In 2015, The Well wanted to take their workforce development to a new level. They knew that for these women to walk in freedom and rebuild their lives, they needed more than job skills – they needed jobs! They wanted them to have meaningful work, so Hon’s Honey was born. Hon’s Honey is a social enterprise of honey based home and body goods handcrafted by women from The Well. This allows survivors to make a paycheck while also maintaining their dignity and giving to something meaningful. So many stories of hope are coming out of this “healing hive”! Learn more here.

“The Well and Hon’s Honey are close to my heart because some of my favorite people have their hands in them. Jordan and her mom, Mandy, care deeply about the women who walk through their doors & give their whole selves to helping them feel seen & loved & supported. The healing that has happened through the work of these ministries is powerful and beautiful, and it’s a joy to partner with them!” -Anna
