Anyone else feel like their mind and house are in sync? When my house is messy, I mentally feel scattered and overwhelmed. And on the contrary, when my house is clean, I feel calmer and more efficient.. I know I’m not alone with this. The struggle in this is that I’m a full time working mom who would love to be more type A than I actually am, and I have a toddler that can make the house look like a tornado came through in seconds. I’ve always wanted to be that person that keeps a clean house without a plan, but that just doesn’t work for me. Parts of the house get neglected, and I end up being overwhelmed and distracted.
Having a checklist has really helped me stay efficient in keeping the house clean. It’s not always perfect, but it’s a guide so I don’t get overwhelmed by all the cleaning to do. I have found what works best for me is focusing on cleaning one room daily with a few consistent small tasks each day. By laying out an easy to follow plan, this checklist has really helped my house, and therefore family thrive.
A little reminder that what makes a home is the people that live in it and the memories that are shared in it, not how clean or tidy it is. When we get overwhelmed by the duties of keeping a house clean, I hope we all remember that humans live there, and it’s okay to let messes linger a little bit longer when rest or time together needs to take priority. There will always be a list of to dos, so this is is my permission slip to you to put it down for a bit and leave the mess a little longer. Your worth is not defined by how clean your house is. Read that again and let it sink in 🙂
I included a blank cleaning checklist here for you to download and fill out based on your needs. I also included an example of what my weekly house checklist looks like. I hope this checklist is helpful for you and serves as a guide to do things little by little, day by day. And if you miss a day, it’s okay. You can always come back to it if you find time later in the week or get to that room next week. So much grace in that! We don’t have to feel overwhelmed by our homes. We can give them the attention they need without sacrificing what we care about most. Can I get an amen?
Lastly, a bonus for you spring cleaners…I made a 30 day declutter guide to help you remove excess stuff in your life.
Happy cleaning!
