Summer was made for refreshing drinks, late night bonfires, dives into cool water, star gazing, boat rides, and being barefoot in the grass.
I always feel this sense of motivation in the summer. I want to make better choices, love my body, and get more rest. Well, turns out it’s actually science. The ground on our feet helps us rest. Our sun kissed skin improves brain function. Vitamin D boosts our immune system.
Our bodies were created in such a beautiful, unique way. They need different things in each season. As we enter summertime, we want to talk about the importance of nourishing your body in this season.
Here’s 3 simple areas we can lean into :
Hydration is more than just drinking enough water. We can hydrate well by prioritizing minerals and antioxidants. Incorporating fresh juices or coconut water will help with this!
Seasonal produce… a quick google search of “seasonal produce in _____ (your state)” will pull up tons of resources to walk you through what types of produce grow seasonally near you. In season fruits and veggies are consumed shortly after harvesting meaning they are allowed to ripen naturally. This process results in higher levels of vitamins and minerals. The fresher the produce, the more nourishing. Bonus points for heading to a local farmers market and stocking up on produce there!
We talk a lot about getting outside. We love the ground on our feet and sunshine on our faces. Fresh air can help raise the oxygen levels in your brain which increases serotonin levels (hello mood boost!). We feel better when we’ve spent time outside, so get outside this summer. Remember to be mindful of UV levels and practice safe sun exposure!
Happy summer friends, and stay tuned for nourishing summer recipes coming soon!
