“How are you?”
“Good!”
“You?”
“Yeah, we’re good too!”
“Love it! Have a great day!”
OR
“What has been the best part of your day?”
“We tried out the new local ice cream shop after church this morning, and it was so tasty!”
“Oh, fun! What is it called? We will have to try it!”
“Want to go together sometime?!”
“Of course!”
Thoughtful questions make quite a difference in day to day conversations.
They can be the difference between a passing conversation or a deepening relationship. Not all questions have to be heavy and deep in order to foster depth in relationships. It could be something as simple as the one above: “What has been the best part of your day?”
I am a big proponent of intentional conversation and making the most of any amount of time to connect! Because of this I wanted to share a few of my favorite resources for good question prompts to help you do the same:
101 Conversation Starters for Couples by Gary Chapman and Ramon Presson
My husband and I love using this one on date night! It takes the work out of thinking of things to ask and provides thoughtful questions to help organically bring up connecting conversations!
Questions for Humans by John Deloney
This series has a deck for all kinds of relationships! Parents & kids, friends, parents & teens, the workplace, and more! Such an easy little package to throw in your purse or backpack and always have on you for in between moments!
Questions in a Box App
This one might be my favorite. It’s an app so it is always nearby and ready to engage! It has categories like “Close Friends”, “Just met”, etc. You can swipe through and pick a question. My husband and I love to do this one with friends at dinner. It has brought up some of our favorite conversations among friends, and we are grateful for the depth it has brought!
After using each of these resources for a long time now, I find these types of questions naturally weaving their way into my everyday conversations. I am better for it and so are my relationships. Try these sometime – I am sure the conversations you find yourself in will be so life giving!
